Author Interview with Karina Halle

I'm excited to bring to you an interview with the amazing Karina Halle.  Thank you so much for your time Karina!

Karina Halle

Karina Halle is the author of the "Experiment in Terror" series.

Goodreads Bio:
Rock music journalist by day and author by night, Karina Halle has always stood out from the crowd. Due to club feet, she spent the first six years of her life in casts on both legs. Though this prevented her from becoming a prima ballerina, it did allow her imagination to overdevelop as she created her own little worlds where nothing was impossible. Of course, these worlds happened to be on the macabre side more often than not. From scaring her friends when she was younger, to watching countless thrillers, to reading horror novels or aiming to be the next Hitchcock with her screenplays, it's no wonder she's found her niche scaring readers with the Experiment in Terror Series.
Karina currently resides in Vancouver's West End and when she's not traveling around the world for concerts, she can be found working in on her books with a bottle of wine, listening to her music a bit too loudly.

Website: Experiment in Terror

  • Favorite book of all time?  Jane Eyre
  • Chocolate or Vanilla?  Chocolate
  • Favorite Place to visit?  New Zealand
  • Any pets?  Have had three dogs growing up, but nothing now. :(
  • Favorite TV show?  That's a tough one.  It's always changing.  I'd say The Simpsons on average.
  • Coke or Pepsi?  Coke
  • Favorite store to shop at?  Mango MNG
  • Favorite season?  Fall
  • Night out or night in?  Night in
  • Skittles or M&Ms?  M&Ms
  • Quick, describe Dead Sky Morning in 5 words or less. Scary, sexy, emotional, poignant, thrilling
  • What was the most difficult part of writing this series?  Learning how to dole things out slowly. I’ve got eight books here and as tempting as it is to give everything away off the bat, I have to show some restraint and slowly reveal my cards, one by one, book by book.
  • What character was your favorite to write?  Why?  Dex. Because he’s just so much fun. He’s an asshole with a heart of gold, a million contradictions in one and always keeps the readers on their toes. And keeps me, as the writer, on my toes as well.  When I’m writing him, I just go along for the ride and he always surprises me with the things he does and says. I love him, I hate him…he’s just the most interesting dude around.
  • Did you base any of the characters off of people you know?  At first, yes. I think there’s a little bit of everyone I know in each character and a lot of that was more prominent in the beginning, when I first started writing the series. But the characters all evolve and really come into their own. Now, though I see various people (including myself) in Dex and Perry, I really can’t think of them in any other terms than just THEM.
  • Any plans for future books/sequals?  Well, there are eight books in total. I’m just about to start writing the fifth book in the series, but I’ve also got some plans for some stand alone books as well. That should come out before the series finishes.
  • If you could live in a book's world, what book would you choose?  Chronicles of Narnia, me thinks.
  • What do your bookshelves look like?  Organized Chaos
  • Is there a specific way you organize your books?  At the moment they are sort of organized into cubes…horror/thriller, YA, Writing, Music and Movies, Travel. And I always try to do it from big/tall book to skinny/small.
  • If you could choose any place in the world without distractions to read a book, where would it be?  On a boat.
  • How do you feel about E-Readers?  Do you think they help the industry, or hurt it?  I have an E-Reader and I do use it but only to read self-published work. It’s just easier and cheaper that way. I personally think E-Readers are great for travel (lugging books around is hard work) but I prefer paperback/hard copies, always. As for the industry…I don’t think it will hurt it in the long run.  Sure, it will (and has) hurt brick and mortar stores which is a real shame. But the fact is, whether you shop off of Kindle or you shop in Barnes & Noble, someone still has to be writing the books.
  • Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers or fans?  Thank you guys so, so much. The fact that I have so many readers and fans really warms my heart (as cheesy as that sounds) and makes me feel grateful. It’s hard not to measure yourself against other authors and wonder why some have a lot of success and some don’t. I don’t know why my books don’t sell as well as others and sometimes I doubt I’ll ever figure it out. But then I remind myself that I’m reaching hundreds of people who not only like my novels, but LOVE them. Perry and Dex have actual fans, readers who are fully invested in them and their journey. The fact that I created something that people enjoy is the real reason I’m doing all of this and a milestone of success in its own right. So thank you all for letting these characters into your heart and giving the books a chance!

Hope you guys enjoyed the interview and will check out Karina's "Experiment in Terror" series.

Again, thank you to Karina for taking the time to be interviewed!
